Quickstart
From sign-in to a first agent run in six steps. Steps 1 and 3 need no AI key; the rest use the key you connect in step 2.
On this page
1. Sign in
- Step 1: Go to rivul.ai and choose Continue with Google. Google confirms your address, so there is no password and no confirmation email.
- Step 2: Rivul AI opens with a default workspace. The sidebar groups every page by what it does: Write, Agents, Sources, Convert, and Tools.
- Step 3: The first time, a short welcome tour opens over the workspace: what works right now with no key, what your AI key unlocks, a place to connect the key, and three first steps.
2. Connect your AI key
- Step 1: Create an API key with one AI provider: Google Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, Mistral, or Meta.
- Step 2: Open Settings → AI provider, choose the provider and a model, paste the key, and click Connect. Rivul AI checks the key before saving it.
- Step 3: When the panel says Connected, AI features use your key. Your provider bills you directly for that use.

3. Run a first search
- Step 1: Open Search papers, under Sources.
- Step 2: Search for a topic, for example speculative decoding large language models, and press Enter.
- Step 3: Open a result to preview its abstract, then click Save to add it to your Library. Search needs no AI key.

4. Get a first Ask Rivul answer
- Step 1: Add a PDF to the Library: a report, a contract, a manual, or the paper you just saved. Use Add → Upload PDF for a file up to 10 MB, then wait until it shows PDF · text ready.
- Step 2: Open Ask Rivul, under Write. It reads All my papers by default.
- Step 3: Ask a question, for example What are the main limitations this document reports?, and press Enter.
- Step 4: Read the answer, then click Open in reader on a cited passage to check it on its page.

5. Run a first agent
- Step 1: Open Agents, under Agents, and click Create agent.
- Step 2: Give it a name and a goal, keep Rivul Index and My library as sources, choose Quick, and click Create.
- Step 3: Type a research question, for example What speedups do speculative decoding methods report for LLM inference, and what limits them?, and click Run.
- Step 4: Follow the steps as they run. The finished report cites each claim, and Runs keeps the steps and every source the agent read.

6. Connect Rivul MCP
- Step 1: Open Rivul MCP, under Agents, and choose your client on MCP setup: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Google Antigravity, or Muse Code.
- Step 2: Add the server and sign in with Rivul. For Claude Code, run the commands below, approve the workspace in the browser, and check that rivul-atlas is listed as connected.
- Step 3: Ask the client to search papers with Rivul MCP and confirm it calls search_papers.
claude mcp add --scope user --transport http rivul-atlas https://rivul.ai/mcp
claude mcp login rivul-atlas
claude mcp list
The welcome tour
The tour has four steps: a welcome, the features that need no AI key, the features your AI key unlocks with an inline Connect form, and three first steps (upload a PDF, search papers, or ask Rivul). Use Continue and Back, or the keyboard: Tab moves between controls and Escape is Skip for now.
Skip for now hides it until you next sign in. Remind me later hides it for 24 hours. Tick Don't show this again before you leave to hide it for good. Done finishes it.
If you finish without an AI key, a small reminder to connect one appears on later visits until you connect a key or choose Don't show again. Once a key is connected and the tour is done, neither appears again.
Open the tour again at any time from the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar: Welcome tour.
Next steps
Turn a scanned report or a photo of a page into text with Document OCR, a meeting or a lecture into a transcript with Transcribe, or listen to an article with Listen.
Before you rely on any answer, open its cited source. A citation shows where a claim came from; it does not prove it.
